No soy una experta.
In the early 2000's, my older brother would buy Reggaeton music videos DVDs; I had no idea where he would get them. & I'm pretty sure I wasn't allowed to watch them because there was sometimes explicit content, but I enjoyed the robust beats.
That's where I first heard Baby Rasta & Gringo, Tego Calderon, Wisin & Yandel, all the big hitters, before they became known worldwide.
As I got older, I developed my musical taste. But I always find myself referring to the OG's. Am I old?
Singing at the top of my lungs to Hay Algo En Ti by Zion & Lennox or el Temazo de Ivy Queen: YO QUIERO BAILAR. A song that helped shape a generation of womenhood and choice over their body.
My curiosity, for lack of a better word, for snooping, helped frame my expectations of reggaeton. And with a little bit more of experience, I wonder how these phrases or words mean to other listeners when they first heard it and how it relates to their culture.
